The Substance of Abstraction

The Other Side of Sweet

"These new pieces are not just about a broken heart, they are very dark and disturbing." Angela Di Bello, Director of Agora Gallery

"The Other Side of Sweet" is Sherry Sweet Tewell's lastest work inspired by lost love and the journey to recovery. She provokes a timely debate with the popularity of the best selling book "Fifty Shades of Grey." Can the pre-occupation with fantasy lead to destructive role in relationships, or does it enhance one? You will be checking your emotions, titillating or humiliating. For adults only, this is not a Christmas story.

"The Other Side of Sweet" will be featured at SoDu Gallery in Key West, Florida, with Artist Reception to held December 2, 2012 from 1pm-4pm. This is a sneak peek at her show which will debut in New York at Agora Gallery in January 2013.
It always starts out as fun. It's exciting. You think you're in love. Your heart beats with anticipation. Submitting, trusting someone
enough to give in to their desires. Wanting to please them and show them you are willing to play their game.
I know he is experienced by the way he wraps my body and ties my wrists. I know I'm not the first, but I want to be the last.
What happens when you don't want to play the game anymore?
When you are in love and your partner is not?
When does the fantasy become an addiction?
Is it when climax is only achieved through humiliation?

In the beginning, everything starts out so golden.
One of the first pieces here is what it was like to be young again, the cookie cutter heart, how it's rough around the edges, because so am I.

These new works were inspired by the personal journey to purge my deepest, blackest, most soul-drained emotions after being dismissed and then disposed, from a long relationship. This is my catharsis.

And I need to ask you, to think hard:
Is it titillating or humiliating?
